General Assemblies of CEN and CENELEC were held
The General Assemblies of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) were held in Luxembourg on 26 and 27 June 2025. The event was hosted by the Luxembourg Institute for Standardization, Accreditation, Safety, and Quality of Products and Services (ILNAS). Representing the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Aleksandar Todorović, Director of the Institute, and Tihomir Anđelić, Head of the Department for General Standardization, participated in those assemblies.
On the first day, an information session was held with the CEN and CENELEC affiliate members, during which the current status of each affiliate member was presented. The representatives of the Institute actively participated in this session.
Also on the first day, the 17th Joint General Assembly of CEN and CENELEC was held. Among other topics, strategic priorities of CEN and CENELEC were discussed, along with the upcoming revision of Regulation (EU) No. 1025/2012 on European standardization. Reports for 2024 were presented by Ms. Elena Santiago Cid, Director General of CEN and CENELEC, followed by the 2024 financial reports of both organizations, as well as the basic principles and budget framework drafts for CEN and CENELEC for 2026. Two panel discussions were also held: one on the importance of standards in strengthening Europe’s competitive future, and another on digital transformation in standardization. The Vice Presidents of CEN and CENELEC for technical matters participated in this discussions.
On the second day, the 61st General Assembly of CEN and the 67th General Assembly of CENELEC were held. During the CEN General Assembly, a new President of CEN for the 2027–2029 term was elected, along with new Vice Presidents for Finance, Technical Matters, and Policy for 2026–2027. New members of the CEN Administrative Board were also elected for the same period. At the CENELEC General Assembly, new Vice Presidents for Finance and Policy for 2026–2027 were elected, as well as new members of the CENELEC Administrative Board for the same term.
By establishing common standards, it is possible to ensure that new technologies are developed and implemented in ways that benefit everyone. This contributes to strengthening the European standardization system and its significance for industry, society, and the public sector.
During the sessions, experiences were exchanged with representatives of national standardization bodies from other European countries with the aim of improving the standardization process in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
