Presentation of the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the “Nikola Tesla Days”
The traditional event “Nikola Tesla Days” was ceremonially opened on Monday, 18 May 2026, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of East Sarajevo, and will continue until 22 May. This year’s programme holds special significance as it is dedicated to the great jubilee – the 170th anniversary of the birth of one of the world’s greatest scientists.
Representatives of the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ISBIH) attended the opening ceremony, paying tribute to Nikola Tesla’s enduring legacy. The event, which includes technical presentations and an exhibition by the Association of Inventors of Republika Srpska, was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Ph.D. Božidar Popović, who emphasized the immeasurable impact of Tesla’s inventions on modern civilization.
As part of the first day’s programme, representatives of ISBIH held a professional presentation on standards and standardization in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The lecture was focused on the role of standards in modern engineering, the standardization process, and the work of the Institute, with special emphasis on the Department for Electrotechnical Standardization.
During the presentation, attendees were given a vivid illustration of the connection between Tesla’s visionary work and modern technical infrastructure. It was highlighted that Tesla’s historic triumph in the “War of Currents” was not merely the result of a single invention, but rather the laying of the foundations for a complete, unified polyphase alternating current system — representing the very beginnings of global electrotechnical standardization.
Future engineers were introduced to the distinction between voluntary standards and mandatory technical regulations, as well as to the importance of international and European standards organizations in which Bosnia and Herzegovina is actively represented by ISBIH. Through practical examples such as plug compatibility, equipment safety, and the application of modern SMART standards, it was emphasized that standards are not an obstacle to creativity, but rather a reliable springboard for the global recognition of future innovations.
By participating in this event, the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues its successful cooperation with Academia, encouraging young professionals to become familiar even during their studies with the rules of the technical profession and the work of technical committees.
