BH K CIGRE Holds Workshop in Sarajevo on „OneGrid Concept and Future Challenges for Modern Power Systems”

The BiH National Committee of CIGRE (BH K CIGRE), in cooperation with G&W Electric (USA) and within the International CIGRE OneGrid initiative, organized the workshop entitled "OneGrid Concept and Future Challenges for Modern Power Systems", which was held on 24 June 2026 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Sarajevo.

OneGrid is a new strategic initiative of the International CIGRE aimed at strengthening cooperation between transmission and distribution systems and developing a unified, integrated approach to the planning, operation and development of future power networks. The initiative is a response to the challenges arising from the energy transition, the accelerated integration of distributed energy resources, electrification, digitalization, and the growing need for resilient power systems.

A special highlight of the workshop was the participation of Mr. Nenad Uzelac (USA), former Chair of the International CIGRE Study Committee A3 and Convener of the International CIGRE OneGrid Coordination Team, responsible for coordinating and advancing the initiative at the global level. Together with experts from G&W Electric, he presented the vision, objectives and future directions of the OneGrid concept, as well as opportunities for regional and international cooperation within the CIGRE community.

The workshop covered topics related to the OneGrid initiative, power system resilience, grid digitalization, the integration of distributed energy resources and data centres, human resource development, and regional cooperation in support of the energy transition. The programme also included the discussion of advanced technologies for diagnostics, monitoring and the development of switchgear equipment aimed at improving the visibility and resilience of power networks, together with an overview of the application and future development of IEEE and IEC standards for switchgear.

The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented at the workshop by Miljan Vasković, Expert Associate for Electrotechnical Standardization.
