The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina has adopted, by translation method, the new edition of BAS EN ISO 21502:2025, Project, Programme and Portfolio Management – Guidance on Project Management, which gives guidlines for the successful execution of projects in various organizational contexts.
The standard defines a framework for project management, focusing on the application of best practices and the effective achievement of project goals. It covers all key phases of the project life cycle, including:
- Initiating a project, with the definition of project organization, governance and leadership, team mobilization, and justification of the project;
- Planning, where the scope, objectives, resources, risks, costs, and timeline are defined;
- Execution and monitoring, including managing the implementation of activities, communication, quality, and changes;
- Project closure, with emphasis on verifying goal achievement, transferring results, and evaluating success.
The standard places special emphasis on:
- The role of stakeholders, including sponsors, users, and team members, and the importance of their communication and engagement;
- Integration of resources and risk management to increase efficiency and reduce uncertainty during project execution;
- Continuous monitoring and improvement of project performance, based on clearly defined goals and success criteria.
The application of BAS EN ISO 21502:2025 can contribute to:
- Project success, through better structure and planning;
- Risk reduction and cost optimization, by systematically managing all aspects of the project;
- Increased trust among project participants, through transparent leadership and accountability.
The standard is applicable to all types of organizations – both private and public – as well as to projects of different scales and complexities, enabling its broad and flexible use in the modern business environment.
