New Service on the Institute’s Website: Searching BAS Standards by ICS

The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina continuously works to improve its digital services in order to make standardization documents as accessible as possible for users. To this end, a new feature has been implemented on our website, enabling users to browse and search the catalogue of BAS standards by the International Classification for Standards (ICS).

What is ICS and why is it important? ICS is a universal hierarchical system developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is used worldwide to facilitate the identification, classification and mapping of equivalent standards across different countries, which significantly simplify the work of experts, companies and institutions.

Classification structure - To ensure more precise searches, the subject structure is organized as a hierarchical classification comprising three levels:

  • Level 1 (Field): A broad field of activity identified by a two-digit notation (e.g. 21 – Mechanical systems and components for general use).
  • Level 2 (Group): A narrower group consisting of the field notation and a three-digit group number (e.g. 21.060 – Fasteners).
  • Level 3 (Sub-group): A specific sub-group comprising the group notation and a two-digit subgroup number (e.g. 21.060.20 – Nuts).

It is important to note that, due to the multidisciplinary nature of certain documents, some BAS standards may be assigned to multiple ICS codes. For example, a standard dealing with information security may blassified under both management systems and information security.

We would like to invite all users to try out this new feature and discover the benefits of searching by ICS, which will enable them to find the documents they need more quickly and efficiently. The new search function can be accessed via the main menu on our website or by clicking this link.
